Júlia Côta
A Portuguese ceramicist, she was born in 1935 in the parish of Galegos, Santa Maria.
Now 87, he was born into a renowned family of potters, succeeding his mother Rosa Côta and his grandfather Domingos Côto, the latter being the creator of the Barcelos cockerel.
The Barcelos rooster is still one of the most common symbols that identifies our country.
Its very characteristic and distinctive figurines include dolls, devils, roosters, a yoke of oxen, a pissing garden and a dovecote.
His art is appreciated all over the world, not only for the figures in his imagery but also for the bright colours he uses.
